Details of the 1828 Settlement between Israel Lewis, John Williams Gwynne Hughes and others on the1828 marriage of Leyton Orton Lewis and Catherine Garnons Hughes which included the settlement of the Bourton Manor Farm (Bishops Cannings) and Hampstead Manor Farm (Old Sodbury, Glos.). David Lewis (Stradey, Carmarthen) was Trustee for the settlement. There were 3 sons and 2 daughters (not named) of the marriage of Leyton & Catherine.  Refers to agreement for sale of Bourton Estate to George Skeate Ruddle (Bishops Cannings) and the Hampstead Estate to Henry J. The conveyance may relate to the sale of land by the trustees & beneficiaries of a Hawkins Trust as the document refers to the Release of the next day to which the following are party :- James Buckler Osborne Bayly & Susan, his wife (Boreham, Wilts), George Boulton & Ann, his wife (Iron Acton, Glos.), Benjamin Lavers Hawkins (St. Just, Cornwall) and Matthew Gravett Hawkins (Bristol). Details of plots of land called Redding Pits at Winford, including acreages and numbers on Tithe Apportionment map, formerly tenanted by William Read, then Thomas Read, now George Read. 166/10 Horningsham – 1825 – Lease for a year (1st part of Lease / Release for the Settlement of Lands upon Trust for the benefit of The Curacy of  Horningsham) by Rev. Francis Skurray (Horningsham) to the Trustee, William Courtenay (Lincoln’s Inn, Middx.). The Lands were situated in North Brewham  and the descriptions include the names & acreages of the Closes. Former & current occupiers of part of the Lands include Edward Ashford, John Ashford, William Winslow, Richard Gould & Joseph Hughes. 132/1 Melksham – 1804 – Mortgage of a close of land k/a New Leaze in Whitley & Shaw, Melksham by Sarah Boucher (Corsham) to James Bull (Melksham). Refers to original 1787 mortgage of the half share by Samuel Pett Boucher and Sarah his wife (then of Biddeston St. Nicholas, Wilts.) to Isaac Holborow the younger of North Wraxall, Samuel’s death, part repayment of the mortgage and subsequent remortgage in 1804 by Sarah to George Moule (Melksham). Following the death of her unmarried sister, Betty Atwood, Sarah became entitled to the other half interest in the close, and this Deed refers to the remortgage of the whole close to James Bull. At that date the close was tenanted by ……….. Jones & Thomas Banning.  3 large sheets of parchment with decorative 1st 2 words incorporating a small Royal Coat of Arms, signed & sealed by Sarah Boucher & George Moule, witnessed on reverse by John Longe.  £68

Includes details of acquisition of land from Henry W Hicks & Thomas W Player Isaac in 1873. Large parchment sheet pre-printed, with manuscript details, signed / sealed by Nicholls. The reverse of the document includes a plan showing location of property.  £42

84/292 Rowd(e) – 1681 – Lease by John Norden (Lincoln’s Inn, Middx) son & heir of John Norden dec’d (Badbury) to John Hiscock (Rowd) of a dwelling house in Rowd – details of sub – lease (sitting tenant Ruth Brewer) and annual rent. Parchment – very decorative initial letter & further embellishments to top margin. Split about 12″ long at bottom – not affecting text, & concealed by ‘turn-up’ at base of document, a few small stains. Signed by Jo. Norden, with seal tag but wax seal missing. Witness signatures on reverse – Tho Hawkins,  Samel Wilkins (or Wickens),  Charles Danvers.   £130

132/18 Standen and New Swindon – 1855 – Sale of  lands at Yate, Glos. by William Godwin (Standen Farm, Wilts. nr Hungerford, previously of West Kington, Wiltshire) as  executor of Mary Godwin (Wapley & Codrington) to Daniel Shipp (Yate). Reference to Trust & Marriage Settlement 1806  of William Godwin, snr (Wapley & Coddrington) [son of John Godwin (Chipping Sodbury)] to Mary Higgs (daughter of Moses Higgs of Wapley & Codrington) to which Trust the lands were granted. John, son of John Godwin and Josiah Higgs, son of Moses were party to the Settlement; mentions death of William Godwin, snr and the Will and death (1845) of Mary his widow. There were 6 children of the marriage of William & Mary – William Godwin, John Anthony Keepen Godwin (Chipping Sodbury), Moses Godwin (Codrington), James Godwin (New Swindon, Wilts), Henry Godwin (died 1847) and Mary Ruth Arnold nee Godwin (widow of William Arnold of Standen Farm nr Hungerford). Also gives names and Tithe Map numbers of the lands sold. 3 large parchment sheets with decorative 1st 2 words.
