158/30 Hemyock – 1879 & later – Mortgage of Public House k/a The Denmark Inn, Taunton St James by James Moon (Hemyock) to William Henry Hewett (Norton Fitzwarren). Location of land by reference to road & adjoining property (sold by Edward Jeboult to George Cooksley.  Parchment sheet with decorative 1st 2 words signed & sealed by James Moon. On the reverse is a large red ink stain covering about 4% of the parchment, which has caused some discolouration to a small area of the text on the front of the document. 162/3 Parracombe – 1801 – Sale of house & lands at Parracombe – part k/a Barton Court Meadows by Richard Blackmore (Killington, Martinhoe) to William Dovell (Holworthy, Parracombe). The lands were inherited from his grandfather also called Richard Blackmore (Martinhoe). Peter Fosse (Ilfracombe) & John Lock (Lyn, Linton) were party to the agreement, possibly as trustees for Dovell. Richard’s daughter, Elizabeth Blackmore to be party to the Release. This document is a Lease for a year, being the first part of a Lease & Release which prior to the 1840’s were necessary to enable the transfer of Real estate. Large sheet of parchment folded in 2 together with a location plan drawn on linen (sewn within the parchment to form a booklet) some dusting, creasing & slight damp staining.  The plan is noted in pencil with the names of subsequent purchasers of the various properties (including Stevenson, Bettenson, Anson, Hill, Short). Signed / sealed by Coles witnessed by A M Alford (Articled Clerk, Exeter). Includes details of various Haldon family events, settlements and arrangements establishing title to the property. Incorporates a colour wash plan and schedule of lands sold to Crocker. 104/2 Yarnscombe – 1769 – Bond given by Lewis Wellington (Wey, St Giles) to Mary Chick & her daughters Mary & Margaret (w/o John Getton) on surrender of leasehold property called “Hayne” + lands named – at that time occupied by the Marys Chick & Ambrose Isaac. Details interest held in lands by Mary’s late husband Thomas Chick under lease dated 1715, & annuities Wellington has agreed to pay to Chick family in exchange for surrender of property, on which notice had been served – to carry out repairs.
