10/5 Bournemouth – 1902 – Auction Particulars for sale of “Burwarton”, West Cliff, part of estate of Edward Taliesyn Jones, decd being sold by order of the High Court in the case of Jones v Jones.  Printed booklet c. 9″x 14″ made by folding a sheet of heavy paper in two, resulting in 4 sides – with a detailed description of the property including room measurements, & conditions of sale.  £10


84/232 Chantmarl, Cattistock – 1871 – Sale of lands & Assignment of life assurance policy by trustees (Thomas R Chaffey (Chantmarl, Cattistock), John Winter Walter (Stoke U Hambden) & George F Collin (Henham, Essex) of William Chaffey dec’d. 233/40 Dorchester and Mintern Magna – 1840 – Abstract of Title of  Shield Farm, Alvescot, Oxon. belonging to Rev. Charles Loder Stephens and contracted to be sold to John Hill (see 

233/39 – Oxfordshire page). Title commences with 1786 sale of property by Rev. Thomas Hughes (Dorchester, Dorset) to John Kenn.  Thomas Hughes was the son of Rev. Charles Hughes (Mintern Magna, Dorset) and the nephew of Rev. Simon Hughes (Hampnett, Glos.) and Rev. John Hughes (Hawling, Glos.). John, Charles & Simon were the sons of Rev. Thomas Hughes (Hampnett, Glos.) and his wife Frediswide Hughes. Includes description, names and acreages of the lands as they were in 1786, also details of lands awarded to  John Kenn under the 1798 Alvescot Inclosure Award and the Feoffment / Marriage Settlement of 1806 between John Kenn and  Sarah Stephens (daughter of Wm. Stephens & sister of   Charles Stephens both of Kencot). The property was inherited by Charles Loder Stephens (only son of Charles Loder) and his wife, Mary – under the Will of John Kenn. 11 sheets of watermarked paper written 9½ sides. Fraying to top edge and split in middle of centre fold of each sheet.  £44 

48/149 Lyme Regis – 1844 – Mortgage by Richard Harcourt Symons (of Mynde Park, Herefordsh., but formerly of Lyme Regis) of interest in Estate of late father, Thomas Symons and property in Lyme Regis, to John Cooke (The Chase, Ross, Herefordsh.) Contains much information, including details of father’s Will, existing Mortgages, brothers and sister and loans already advanced by Cooke and to be secured by mortgaged interests and property.  The redemption (dated 1850) contains details of a number of further advances on same security, assignment to George Strong (The Chase) and Ellen Strong (Coughton, Walford, Herefordsh.) and subsequent redemption by Richard’s widow, Jane Dinnis Tolson Symons (Lyme Regis). 2 sheets of paper, split along centre fold, with other minor splits. A very unusual document, with the redemption written around the margins – in very small neat writing –  as well as on the reverse, of the original Deed. Original signed by Richard Harcourt Symons, and redemption by Ellen and George Strong.   £41

195/8 Poole – 1847- Sale of Equity in Redemption of Property – North Cross Street, Gosport, Hants. by William Sprent (late Chester, now Gosport) to Robert Hyde (Gosport). Benjamin Hobbs (Alverstoke, Hants) & John Hunt (late Gosport, now Poole, Dorset) party to agreement as Mortgagors of property. Refers to death – Will proved 1838 – of Sprent’s mother Mary Sprent (Chester) and the mortgage to Hobbs & Hunt. Details of property include measurements of plot, former & current occupiers & adjoining properties & roads.  2 large parchment sheets with decorative 1st 2 words  signed / sealed by  William Sprent,  Robert Hyde, Benjamin Hobbs & John Hunt, witnesses on reverse include Mary Ann Hunt (Poole).  £62

66/43 Stour Provost  – 1888 – Document  concerned with the conveyance in 1858 to the Trustees of the Will of William Penny by his daughters Sarah Charlotte (w/o Arthur Ayliffe of S. Bruham) & Elizabeth Hartgill (w/o John Westover of Stour Provost) of various properties which had belonged to William & his late wife.  The schedules include The Bull Inn & closes of land at S Bruham, ‘The Home Living’, Charlton Musgrove – comprising dwelling house, barton & closes, a newly erected property occupied by William & 2 other houses, occupied by Thomas Bremson & Thos. Forward in Kilmington & dwellings at Zeals, Mere, Wilts occupied by Abraham Clothier, James Cowley, Ann Riddick, John Harcourt & John Green. 213/74 Brooks, William Nathaniel - 1921 - Re-conveyance of various lands by James Lane Brooks (Odiham), William Nathaniel Brooks (formerly Thoresby Ollerton, Notts, now Iwerne Minster, Dorset) and William Brooks (Hampstead, London) following the repayment of a mortgage. Refers to 1887 mortgage granted by William Brooks the elder, signed & sealed James L Brooks (Odiham), William N Brooks & Wm Brooks. Full details and price on Hampshire page - Property - Yateley


259/42 Goodden, John – Over Compton – 1872 – Sale of 2 plots of land belonging to Thomas Parr (Letcomb Regis) by Charles Smith (High Holborn, Middx), a Mortgagee of the lands, to Francis Fernando Bullock (Wantage). Refers to the acquisition of the lands (amongst others) by Parr in 1862, the 1863 Mortgage of the lands to John Cann and assignment of part of the Mortgage by Cann, and the repayment of the bulk of that part of the original Mortgage, with the part outstanding being assigned in 1871 to Edwin Newman (Yeovil, Somerset). As a result of various assignments, the balance of the original Mortgage was owed to John Goodden (Over Compton). Additional Mortgages were advanced by Thomas Clutterbuck (Warkworth, Northumberland) and Charles Smith, both in 1869, Smith having Power of Sale – which he exercised by selling part of the lands to Bullock. Includes details of how the Sale proceeds were to be applied in paying off parts of the outstanding Mortgages. Previous owners of the plots of Land include Robert Butler, George Butler, Timothy Bartholomew & Thomas Goodlake. Former occupiers include Rev. William Henry Price & William Edmonds, the current occupier was William Thorneloe Pritchard – by virtue of a 14 year Lease. 3 large parchment sheets with decorative 1st 2 words, the 3rd sheet includes a Location Plan & is signed / sealed by Edwin Newman, John Goodden, Thomas Clutterbuck & Charles Smith.  £74

David Hogarth in favour of his son Sumner Hogarth (Portland Isle). Refers to 1837 Marriage Settlement of David Hogarth and Hannah Prudence Bohun, issue of marriage (Sumner & two others, not named), her death in 1841 and advances made by the Trustees for Sumner’s benefit. Richard Bohun (Beccles), John Hogarth (Berwick upon Tweed) & George Hogarth (late Edinburgh, now Cupar). 236/67 Hunt, Ernest James - Portland -  1893 - Succession Duty Return in respect of 2 Copyhold Closes of Land at Hailey, inherited by Ernest James Hunt(66th Royal Berkshire Regiment, Portland) on the 1893 death of Ann Clarke. 166/1 Messiter, Richard  – 1801 Sale of 2 closes of land in Brewham, Somerset, by John Ring (New Street, Hanover Square, London) and Robert Combe (Wincanton) – a Devisee in Trust named in the Will of Richard Ring (dec’d of Wincanton) to Harry Balch (Brewham). The land was tenanted by Thomas Noel.  Richard Messiter (Shaftsbury, Dorset), eldest son & heir of Moulton Messiter  (dec’d of Wincanton) is party to the agreement as Trustee for John Ring & Richard Ring dec’d.  Large parchment sheet with decorative 1st 2 words, a number of “natural” holes, also a small hole in one fold with a slight loss of text. Signed / sealed by Rich. Messiter, John Ring & Robt. Combe, witnessed on reverse by John Messiter, Rich. Ring & Wm. Dynelott(?). £58

  

213/38 Milne(family) - Dorchester - 1909 Appointment of an Interest under their Marriage Settlement, made by the Rev. Edgar Astley Milne and his wife Amy Elizabeth in favour of one of their children, Marjorie Una Milne. Refers to the 1888 Marriage Settlement, part of the funds of which were expectant following the death of Amy Elizabeth's mother Harriet Anna Starling. The Trustees included Henry Ernest Milne & John Little Starling. The Appointment was made in anticipation of the forthcoming Marriage between Marjorie and Edward Peakes Gundry (Bridport). Very large parchment sheet, folded in 2, written on 3 sides. Signed / sealedby Edgar Astley Milne and Amy Elizabeth Milne. £36

166/2 Pleydell, Edmund Morton – 1802 Counterpart of 99 year Lease of Copyhold Messuage k/a ‘Browns’ and Lands at Chilton, Somerset by Edmund Morton Pleydell (Whatcombe House, Dorset) to William Poole (Nether Stowey). Includes the acreages and names of some of the closes of land. Refers to 1780 Lease for 99 years granted by Edmund Morton Pleydell, deceased to Poole. The Lease is for the lives of William Brice Poole, Harriet Poole & William Beadon Buller (son of Robert Beadon Buller of Nether Stowey). Large parchment sheet with decorative 1st 2 words, incorporating the Royal Coat of Arms. Some pencil deletions – possibly in connection with the preparation of a later document. Signed & sealed by Wm. Poole.  £60

Refers to monies owed to her by Thomas Thorne (Shaftsbury) re mortgage.  Parchment sheet – several small splits in folds –  with grant of Probate & wafer seal attd.   £33 215/143 Thompson, George – Leigh Parsonage, Sherborne – 1866 – Lease of property in College Road, Highbury Park, Middx by Rev. George Thompson  to James Keast & John Moon (both Camberwell, Surrey).  The house had been constructed by Keast & Moon & the document gives covenants & conditions relating to the Lease. The reverse contains a 2nd Indenture (1867) assigning the Lease from Keast to Moon & refers to 1866 Mortgage to Killingworth Hedges (Bloomsbury), & the dissolution of Keast & Moon’s Partnership. Large parchment sheet with decorative 1st 2 words & a colour wash location plan which shows adjoining properties leased to the partners by Thompson. Original Lease signed & sealed by George Thompson & James Keast, assignment by James Keast & John Moon, witnessed by K Hedges.  £56
