104/15 Alborough – 1833 – Bond of Indemnity given by Edward Lord Suffield, Baron Suffield of Suffield  to James Gay (Aylsham). Refers to agreement of same day by which Suffield sold to Gay  Land in Alborough. The Bond relates to an Indemnity in respect of an Annuity previously charged against the Lands under the Will of  Dorothy Harwood (Formerly Lubbock) dated  1727). Sheet paper watermarked 1832 – folded in 2 – written on 1+ sides. Ink & embossed duty stamps. Signed  Suffield with wax seal containing (possibly family) coat of arms – witness signature Edward White, (Marlborough St). [see also 130/78 below ‘Southrepps] £45


198/25 Aslacton - 1843 - Mortgage of Windmill, Buildings & Land in Aslacton by Benjamin Gibson (Aslacton) to Thomas Dyson (Diss). Part of the property was freehold and part Copyhold, held of the Manor of Tacoluestone. Refers to the acquisition by Gibson and gives the location by adjoining lanes and occupiers - Robert Smith & James Atkins (on Moulton Town land).  2 large parchment sheets with decorative 1st 2 words incorporating Royal Coat of Arms, signed & sealedby Benjamin Gibson & Thos. 198/14 Cromer - 1822 - Sale of property in Cromer alias Shipdon by John Peddar as Executor of the Will of Thomas Harveyto the Rev. John Bane (all of Aylsham). Refers to Harvey's Will and death in 1798 and the death of his widow Ann Harvey in 1822. The Cromer property had been occupied by Catherine Priest, then Samuel Francis. 198/20 Cromer - 1837 - Mortgage of a Capital Messuage, Stable, Coach House, Cottage, Yard, Garden, etc in Cromer by John Juler Pank (Cromer) to William Tylney Spurdens (North Walsham) & Thomas Bidwell (Swafield). Former & current adjoining landowners include Gerard Levinge van Heythuysen, Thomas Fowell Buxton & George Wyndham. The land was acquired in 1785 by Matthew Pank from Gerard Levinge van Heythuysen and left to his son John Juler. Large parchment sheet with decorative 1st 2 words, signed & sealed by John Juler Pank (Cromer) to Wm Tylney Spurdens, Thomas Bidwell & George Wilkinson (North Walsham as Trustee for Spurdens & Bidwell).  £60


198/24 Cromer - 1843 - Sale of property in Cromer alias Shipden by John Bane & John Pedder Bane as Executors & Trustees of the Will of Robert Harvey (all Aylesham) to the Rev. William Sharpe (Cromer). Refers to the Will of  John Pedder (Aylesham, died 1827) who left a life interest in his property to his wife Frances, and after her death (in 1831) to Robert & Ann the children of Thomas Harvey (Aylesham) as Tenants in Common. Ann subsequently assigned her interest in the properties to Robert, who in 1829Mortgaged them to Thomas Brightwell (Norwich). Robert Harvey left his estate to his Trustees to sell as much as was necessary to pay his debts, and the Income from the residue to his sisters - Ann Harvey & Catherine, wife of John Bane for life and after their deaths, to John Pedder Bane for ever. The Trustees agreed to sell the property in London St., Cromer to Sharpe; part of the proceeds of which to be paid to Thomas Brightwell to settle the outstanding Mortgage. Refers to a Messuage formerly occupied by Catherine Priest, then Samuel Francis, then divided into 2 tenements occupied by  ......... Cawston, widow & Samuel Francis and a Building used as an infants school. Adjoining landowners include Stephen Burston, Countess of Listowel, Mary Dyball Pank, John Juler Pank & Louisa Carr. Life Tenants, Ann Harvey & Catherine Bane and Brightwell, as Mortgagee, are party to the agreement. 2 large parchment sheets with decorative 1st 2 words incorporating Royal Coat of Arms, signed & sealed by John Bane, John Pedder Bane, Ann Harvey, Catherine Bane and Thos. Brightwell. Attached to the document is a certificate confirming that Catherine Bane, wife of John, had freely and voluntarily entered into the agreement. £65

84/184 Diss (Heywood Hall) – 1752 – Copy of Surrender of Copyhold Messuages & Land to Manor by Peter Buckenham to the use of Philip Meadows, the younger as security for money borrowed. 1 side of a sheet of watermarked paper – endorsed on reverse with Buckingham’s  ‘mark‘ that it’s a true copy & that he’s received the monies. Witnesses – Abigail Keer / Kear & Thos Gostling. Small holes in folds not affecting text. [see also 84/185 – Wills, below]   £40


84/186 Diss – 1798 – Obligation Bond given by Ralph Freeman re monies owed to John Sharman. Refers to surrender of Lands held of the Manor, as security.  Pre-printed paper with manuscript details. The signature / mark of Ralph Freeman & most of the seal have been torn out (possibly when the loan was repaid in 1807) leaving a hole approx 2″x 1:5″ affecting a little of the text. The reverse is noted with details of 6 interest payments with 3 x signature of J Sharman, and 1 of (possibly) M Sharman.  £30

Balance of document mostly relates to Enfranchisement of the lands from various Manors, & settlement in Trust on the Marriage of Charles Chase to Louisa Hicks (Highbury Cresc. Gives location of the properties formerly occupied by James Dennis, George Baldwin, Samuel Sexton & Samuel Pooley, then by John Barber, John Cubitt, Sexton & John Case. Large parchment sheet, 1st 2 words embellished - signed / sealed by Robert Roofe & George Wilkinson. The Mortgage's Redemption by Robert's widow, Susanna Roofe, in 1862 is on the reverse - signed by  George Wilkinson.  £60

The plot had been allocated under the Foulsham Inclosure Act and the adjoining landowners were Robert Watts, Abraham Body & Catherine Davies.  Large parchment sheet with decorative 1st 2 words, signed& sealed by John Mayston with "Mark" of Peter Coulsey, witnessed on reverse by Agas Goose.  £60


193/7 Garboldisham – 1744 –  Lease for a year (being first part of lease & release for conveyance of Land, possibly as security for a Mortgage) by Thomasine & Robert Bate (Garboldisham) to Rachael Cocksedge (Ixworth, Suffolk). Refers to Capital Messuage k/a Pipers, and a number of pieces of Land (some named) in Garboldisham, each piece with details of acreage and location by reference to adjoining Landowners, Ways, Water courses, etc. Also refers to a Messuage & Farm k/a Coldredd and further Lands at Banham, Norfolk. Large parchment sheet with decorative 1st 2 words incorporating Portrait of George II and the Royal Coat of Arms, signed & sealed by Robt. Bate & Thomasine Bate, witnessed on reverse by Hen? Cocksedge, Ann Bate & John Potter.  There is a short tear to the bottom of the document, but no loss of text.  £120

104/14 Great Yarmouth – 1820 –  Bond for repayment of loan given by Christopher Taylor Ellis (Gt Yarmouth) to John Colk (Bacton) – gives dates on which instalments of loan are to be repaid. Pre- printed sheet paper – watermarked 1816 – folded in 2 & written on 2+ sides –  manuscript details – ink & embossed duty stamps. Signed / sealed Chrisr Taylor Ellis – witness signature F Hodskinson.   The document is also endorsed with 3 signatures of John Colk confirming the repayments. £40

Refers to its acquisition in 1870(previously occupied by Charles Moore) by Nuthall from Sarah Ann Moore, Charles John Moore & Andrew Storey. Past & current occupiers of adjoining properties include Samuel Barge, John Barnaby, Sir Edmund Lacon, ....... Nittleton. Also mentions a Chamber parcel of the dwelling, extending over a common lane, occupied by Henry Yetts, then John Thompson, Christopher Ellis, John Leach. 193/2 Haddescoe – 1717 – Appointment of new Trustees of two pieces of Community Land in Haddescoe, the income from which was used for the maintenance of the Kings Highway. Details of the location of the lands by reference to adjoining landowners and byways. Refers to Order and Decree of 1639 and the appointment of Trustees in 1642 – who included Robert Suckling the elder (Woodton, Norfolk), William Hill (Hales, Norfolk) & John Stanton (Straybrook, Suffolk). Details of the mortgaged lands in Fen Lane, including former owners John Calver & William Jennings, adjoining property owners including John Crisp the younger, and the nature of buildings currently on the land. 67/93 Salhouse – 1812 / 13 Two similar  manuscript maps noted “Salhouse Estate” and “Plans of J. Redgrave’s and W. Marshall’s occupations 1812 & 1813”.  They show roads, the church, fields and field numbers, but don’t actually identify the village concerned – but it would appear to relate to Salhouse. Most of the land was probably occupied by J. Redgrave, as on each map 1 field is shown as occupied by W. Marshall, and 1 by “Mrs. Ward” [see Norfolk Wills page 90/15]. On 1 plan, 2 fields “The Long Pightle” & “The Bell Piece” are noted “Mr. Brooke“.  2 sheets of paper watermarked 1811, each approx. 8¼” x 15½”, pinned together – slight dusting & creasing & several very minor tears to edges.  £18

Sheet of watermarked paper folded in 2 & written on 1 side, with some small holes, not affecting text. The document is not dated, but the watermark includes the initials “G R” [George Rex, for King George].  £8


90/15 Ward, Amelia widow – Salhouse – dated 1801  Obligation Bond given by Amelia to her son Robert Ward (Liskeard, Cornwall) re a sum of money to be paid to him after her death. Sheet watermarked paper folded in 2, written 1 side with ink & embossed duty stamps. Signed / sealed by Amelia, witnessed by Tho Blake & Tho Blake jnr. Minor holes in some folds.  £37


67/93 Ward, Mrs – 1812 / 13 Two similar  manuscript maps noted “Salhouse Estate” and “Plans of J. Redgrave’s and W. Marshall’s occupations 1812 & 1813”.  They show roads, the church, fields and field numbers, but don’t actually identify the village concerned – but it would appear to relate to Salhouse. Most of the land was probably occupied by J. Redgrave, as on each map 1 field is shown as occupied by W. Marshall, and 1 by “Mrs. Ward” [see Norfolk Wills page 90/15]. On 1 plan, 2 fields “The Long Pightle” & “The Bell Piece” are noted “Mr. Brooke”.  2 sheets of paper watermarked 1811, each approx. 8¼” x 15½”, pinned together – slight dusting & creasing & several very minor tears to edges.  £18

198/19 Watts, Thomas - Norwich - 1837- Assignment of an Estate inherited by Thomas Watts the elder, to his son Thomas the younger (both of Norwich). Robert Carr (Kings Lynn) died in 1811& left a Life Interest in his Estate to his widow Rachel, (she subsequently married William Knowles (South Creake), he died 1824) and after her death (1834) a half Interest in his Estate to the 2 daughters of his brother William Carr. The 2 daughters were Frances (died 1809) wife of William Dawson and Ann  wife of Thomas Watts the elder. Ann's wish was that any monies received by virtue of Robert Carr's Will should go to her son Thomas the younger. This 1837 Indenture assigns his Interest in Robert Carr's Estate in accordance with this. Parchment sheet, 1st 2 words embellished, signed / sealed by Thos. Watts sen. & Thomas Watts jun., witnessed on reverse by Thos. Brightwell & Henry Dixon.  £60
