63/1 Cambridge – 1807– Sale of Property (Messingham, Lincs.) –– Thomas Gerrard Ferrand (Trinity College, University of Cambridge) to Thomas Sowerby. William Barnard (Gainsburgh), and Thomas Hill (Scotterthorpe) were also party to agreement. 3 sheets parchment – signed and sealed by Thomas G Ferrand and Thomas Hill. Witnessed by  B Codd, Jon Brundrett, Wm. Nicholson, also mark of William Allison. Refers to Ferrand’s late father, Thomas Ferrand (heretobefore, Thomas Waddington) and details title to property by reference to earlier deeds going back to 1719.   £52

Refers to Marriage Sett (1838) of Harriett’s parents – Rev Thomas Littlewood Gleadowe (Roughton, Lincs) & Miss Harriett Anderson (Cambridge). 213/77  Cambridge - 1889 - Sale of Farm & Lands at Wymeswold, Leics. by Charles Woodroffe Burrows to Trinity College Cambridge. Large 6 page parchment booklet, written 4 pages, signedChas. W. Burrows, witnessed by Walter H. Francis (solicitor, Cambridge). A large fold-out colour wash location plan of the lands sold is sewn into the booklet. 213/78  Cambridge - 1889 - Undertaking by Charles Woodroffe Burrows (Leicester) to produce, if required, certain Title Deeds relating both to lands at Wymeswold sold to TrinityCollege Cambridge and other lands he owns. Full details on Leicestershire page - Property – Wymeswold


84/21 Cambridge, Newnham, Soham – 1897 – Agreement relating to members of the Anderson, Lofft, and Gleadowe families. Refers to the Marriage Settlements between a) Capel Lofft and Mary Anderson (1837) and b) Thomas Littlewood Gleadowe and Harriet Anderson (1838), and the Wills of Mary & Harriet’s mother Elizabeth Anderson, and her brother William Whittred.  Contains extensive details of subsequent Deeds, family births, marriages & deaths, and schedule of properties in  Cambridge, Newnham  & Soham. Written on 26 sides of parchment – signed & sealed by Mary Whittred Lofft (temp. residing in S Kensington, Middx),  Thomas Smith Gleadowe (Alderly Edge, Cheshire), and Trustees Robert Adamson (Middx),  Henry William Wright (Wimbledon, Surrey).  £72

255/2 Elsworth - 1800 - A large framed parchment Indenture relating to the  Sale of the Freehold of the Public House k/a  "The Fox and Hounds" (now k/a "The Poacher) and adjoining cottage at Elsworth by Matthew Holworthy (Elsworth) to Peter Cowling (Fenstanton, Huntingdonsh.). Henry Sweeting (Huntingdon) was party to agreement as Trustee for Cowling.  The property was previously held copyhold of the Manor of Elsworth by Mrs Elizabeth Holworthy, who sold it to Matthew Holworthy - who was Lord of the Manor. At the date of the conveyance, the property was in the possession of a Mr. Chaplin. Large parchment sheet with decorative first 2 words, signed & sealed by Matthw. Holworthy. Mounted, framed in a wide gilt frame and glazed - overall size approx 40½"x 31¼" (103cm x 79cm).NB. - arrangements will have to be made for collection or Special Delivery. £175


190/16 St Ives – 1746 – Obligation Bond given by Harris Barnes to James Martin in support of a Surrender of copyhold property occupied by Thomas Curtis, to the Lord of the Manor of Toseland. 131/1 Swaffham Bulbeck – 1800 – Sale of Land which had been intended to be allotted to Jacob John Whittington, by Inclosure Commissioners on his instructions, to raise his share of the expenses. The purchaser was William Stanton as Trustee for James Rickard Barker. Location of the land given by reference to adjoining landowners & roads. Sheet of parchment with impressed duty stamp – signed by Stanton, also by Tho Stone,  AC Driver,  J Dugmore & Edwd Hare (presumably the Commissioners). £47

54/16 Beakley, Catherine S. & Christopher J. – Toneham  – 1872 – Release of surviving Trustee following the distribution of the Trust Assets by the beneficiaries of the Oliver Marriage Settlement. Refers to the Settlement of 1824 between Elizabeth Clarke and Richard James Oliver; one of the Trustees was Rev. George Sanders, Elizabeth’s brother was John Clarke. Mentions death of Richard James Oliver – 1834, and Elizabeth Oliver – 1872. There were 3 children of the marriage Robert George Oliver (Regent Street, Middx.), Frederick Oliver (Quebec, Canada) & Catherine Smith Beakley (w/o Christopher James Beakley of Toneham (Farm), Cambs.). Gives details of various changes both of Trustees – John Sanders Clarke of Brentingley, Leics. was appointed in 1856 – and the investment of the Trust Funds. Large sheet of watermarked paper folded in 2 & written 3 sides, very slight fraying to edges, signed & sealed by Robert George Oliver, Frederick Oliver, C. J. Beakley & Catherine Smith Beakley.  £39

198/3 Hodson, Hannah - Outwell - 1809 - Assignment of Mortgage by Richard Wooll (Upwell) as Executor of William Overstow (Upwell) to Hannah Hodson, widow, (Outwell. Isle of Ely & Cambs.). The original 1807 Mortgage was granted by Overstow to Mary & John Gotobed (Welney, Isle of Ely & Cambs.) and Susanna & John Cave (Abbots Rippon, Hunts.). Mary Gotobed was the Life Tenant of the Lands under the Will of William Beart (Welney) and her daughter Susanna Cave was entitled to the Lands following her mother's death. They were acquired by Beart from Elizabeth Adkin, widow and Thomas Adkin, part were bounded by lands of William Hutton, then Thomas Lister, then John Sedgeley. 2 large parchment sheets,  signed / sealed by Richard Wooll,  John Gotobed, Mary Gotobed, John Cave & Susanna Cave, witnessed on reverse by Tho. Holman & G. W. Lemon. The reverse of the document also contains an undertaking to assign the premises to James Lee (Upwell) the Mortgage having been repaid in full, signed H. Hodson in 1820 witnessed by Hanslip Palmer.    £65


118/1 Ibberson, Charles – Chesterton – 1890 Probated copy of Will – names sons Charles (Kings Lynn),  Herbert G,  daughter Jane M,  sister Emily C. Property in Kings Lynn. Parchment – cert of Probate & wafer seal attd – some dusting to outside – company stamps on reverse.  £18

  

198/2 Overstow, William -  Upwell - 1807 - Mortgage of half share interest in Land at Upwell by Mary & John Gotobed(Welney, Norfolk & Cambs.) and Susanna & John Cave (Abbots Rippon, Hunts.) to William Overstow (Upwell, Norfolk & Cambs.). Mary Gotobed was the Life Tenant of the Lands under the 1788 Will of William Beart (Welney) and her daughter Susanna Cave was entitled to the Lands following her mother's death. They were acquired by Beart from Elizabeth Adkin, widow and Thomas Adkin, part were bounded by lands of William Hutton, then Thomas Lister, then John Sedgeley. 2 large parchment sheets with decorative 1st 2 words,  signed / sealed by John Gotobed, Mary Gotobed, John Cave & Susanna Cave, witnessed on reverse by Tho. 211/49 Scott, Sarah – Mansfield, Notts – 1901 Probated copy of Will – father late Obadiah Scott (Ditch Field, Burwell, Cambs. where Sarah had land), brother James Scott. She named Frances Scott (Swaffham Fen), widow, as an Exor. Paper booklet, bank stamp on back, wafer seal attached.  £15

  

213/8 Smith, Rev. William - Dry Drayton - 1901 - Redemption of Mortgage by Joseph Norris (Sunningdale) on Dwelling House, Joiners Shop, Drying Sheds, Painter, Plumber & Glaziers Shops and Cottage at Sunningdale, Berks adjoining the Windsor to Ascot and Wingfield to Bracknell roads. Details of original 1865 Mortgage by Norris to Rev. William Smith(Dry Drayton) and Rev. Henry Smith (Easton Mandril, Northants.) and following the death of Rev. William in 1886 the transfer of the balance of the outstanding Mortgage by Rev. Henry to Stephen Soames (Hall Grove, Bagshot) and Vincent Hilton Biscoe (Thornton Heath, Croydon). Joseph Norris repaid the balance of the outstanding Mortgage and the premises have been re-conveyed to him by Soames & Biscoe. Large parchment sheet folded in 2 and written on 3 sides, signed & sealed by Stephen Soames & V. H. Biscoe, witnessed by Robert Soames (Scaldwell, Northants.) & V.... Biscoe (Bank of England, London).   £38
